A free Vassar education? It’s worth a bit more now than it used to be, but back in 1890 any girl who sold subscriptions to The Ladies’ Home Journal had a shot at her very own Vassar education, free of charge. This advertisement from the women’s magazine The Delineator offers the girl who sells the most subscriptions a free ride at Vassar, or, if our fine Hudson River Valley locale is not to her liking, a free education from Wellesley or Smith.
