From Your AAVC President

Dear Alumnae/i,

I am writing to bring you up to date on several positive developments regarding the AAVC and Vassar’s alumnae/i communications and development programs. As you know from President Hill’s community letters, the senior administrators of the college, the Board of Trustees, and the alumnae/i association have been engaged in rigorous discussions about how the college can meet the financial challenges of the current economic environment while maintaining Vassar’s core values. To fulfill this goal, we have been working to strengthen the college by improving the way we function as an institution and by using our resources as effectively as possible.

As part of this effort, we are reorganizing the way we deliver services to alumnae/i. The college will create a new office, the Office of Alumnae/i Affairs and College Development. This new entity will be the locus for planning and carrying out the programs that support the college’s relationship with its alumnae/i and the alumnae/i association. This new structure reflects a long held desire to better coordinate the efforts of staff working with and for alumnae/i. At the same time, we are strengthening the working relationship between the AAVC Board, the Office of Communications (formerly College Relations) and the new Office of Alumnae/i Affairs and College Development. Alumnae/i communications, including the magazine, will benefit from the additional resources provided by the talented writers and editors in the Communications office.

Throughout this process, we have focused on the importance of the college’s strong and vital relationship with our alumnae/i. The alumnae/i leaders serving on the AAVC Board of Directors have been pleased that President Hill continues to affirm her commitment to sustaining and strengthening this bond. We believe that the continuation of AAVC as an independent entity, led by an alumnae/i-elected board and the six AAVC trustees who also serve on the college’s board, remains an essential part of Vassar’s relationship with its remarkable alumnae/i body. I look forward to working with you to support our college and its mission in the months and years ahead.
