1960 Election in Main Building
1960 Election in Main Building

The 1960 election swept Vassar up in a flurry of political activity, from student debates to “torchlight parades“ through Poughkeepsie. Scrawled on the back of this photograph are the words “1960 Election in Main Building“ — could this be the election night headquarters organized by Asrid Gram of the college’s Young Republicans, mentioned in the October 5 issue of the Miscellany News? Forty-eight years later campaign volunteers make more websites than mimeographs, but even with the advent of blogs, Facebook groups, and YouTube campaigning, you can still expect to find Vassar students gathered around a television late on the night of November 4, anxiously awaiting the election results. — K.A.
