Norman Fainstein to Take on New Role as President of Connecticut College

After serving for six years as dean of the faculty, Norman Fainstein will be starting a new chapter is his already distinguished career. In October, Fainstein will assume the presidency of Connecticut College in New London, CT. The West Haven native joined Vassar in 1995 after professorial appointments at Columbia University, the New School for Social Research, and the Graduate School of the City University of New York, where he also served as dean of the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Baruch College.

"These have been six wonderful years for me, years that I will long remember for the people with whom I have had the privilege of working. I will leave with the pleasure of knowing that the college is thriving and that the Dean of the Faculty office will be left in extraordinarily competent and dedicated hands. I am grateful and happy to have had the opportunity to contribute to the excellence that is Vassar." stated Fainstein in an email to the campus. Vassar President Frances Fergusson added "We are sorry to lose a superb dean but know Connecticut College will be extremely well served by everything Norman will bring to the position."
