Patiently awaiting the arrival of cycling "Yalies," these Vassar women are at the finish line in front of Main for the 1953 Trumbull College Beer and Bike Race. Teams of students from Yale’s Trumbull Residential College sped from New Haven to Poughkeepsie in this annual event. Each Vassar house was to cheer for two teams, and representatives from the houses reported on the teams’ progress throughout the approximately six-hour ride. According to an April 18, 1953, article in the Vassar Chronicle, Yale’s Delaney Glen and his Jazz Band entertained the crowds waiting near Main, which included Vassar President Sarah Gibson Blanding. The race was followed by a "plunge" in Sunset Lake, and a beer and picnic party for the racers and their dates.
