Season Stats

Men's Baseball

(16-20, 3-9 UCAA)

Vassar’s men finished the year with a 16-20 overall record. Tim Reinhardt ’04 and Quinn Robinson ’07 were named All-Region Third Team. Robinson and Paul Noonan ’06 were named First Team All-UCAA; Reinhardt, Second Team. The Brewers were coached by Chris Campassi, who has since been appointed full-time head coach.

Men's Lacrosse

(3-9, 0-6 UCAA)

Wins over SUNY-Farmingdale, Castleton State, and Dominican were scant reward for a hard working squad. Zach Winkler earned UCAA Offensive Performer of the Week honors.

Women's Lacrosse

(3-11, 1-7 UCAA)

The Vassar women faced many of the nation’s top 20 ranked teams and earned wins over Roger Williams, Clarkson, and Utica. The attack was led by Kristin Hogan ’06, who had 28 goals and 35 draw controls. She was named Third Team All-New York State.

Women’s Golf

In its first year as a varsity sport the team competed in five tournaments—at Mt. Holyoke, Wellesley, Williams twice, and Amherst. The young and inexperienced squad was coached by Andy Jennings, who expects great strides from the team in the future.

Men’s Rowing

At the UCAA Championship Vassar placed sixth of nine schools to complete a hard season. Good outings were recorded at the Head of the Connecticut by the Varsity 8, where they finished 12th of 22 crews, and by the Novice 8 at the Head of the Fish (18th of 29). However, bad weather and illness over the spring-break trip curtailed successes.

Women’s Rowing

Vassar finished second of nine schools at the UCAA Championship with the Varsity 8 a very creditable sixth at the ECAC Championship. In this year’s Seven Sisters Regatta, Vassar placed third and the Varsity 8 was ranked eighth in the nation.

Men's Rugby

(12-8, 7-1 Met NY)

The team recorded its best overall record in 10 years and won the Metropolitan New York Rugby Union Division II title, defeating Seton Hall 25-18 in the final. At the Beast of the East Tournament the team made the consolation bracket final and along the way defeated Boston College 17-5 and Union College 21-12.

Women’s Rugby

(16-8, 7-1 Met NY)

The women qualified for the Northeast Championship for the seventh consecutive year but fell in a thriller to Brown University 26-19. In the spring they entered three tournaments and made the final in each of them, only to lose by the narrowest of margins, twice in overtime and once by a single try. The “B” team compiled an impressive record of 10-4-2 and defeated six “A” teams in doing so.

Men’s Tennis

(9-10)

The Brewers placed fourth at the UCAA Championship and couldn’t seem to find any consistency as they earned nine wins from 19 matches. It was probably the toughest schedule in many years and players lost to JYA second semester further hampered progress.

Women’s Tennis

(19-3)

2002 – 03 was a tough act to follow, but the Vassar women duplicated many of the outstanding successes. By the end of the fall, they were 7-1 and had earned the UCAA and New York State Championship titles. Vassar was ranked 29th nationally out of the 360 Division III schools and ninth in their region of 110 teams. They went on to win the Seven Sisters Championship and post a regular season record of 19-2. More accolades were to follow as Vassar received an NCAA Championship bid, as one of only 26 teams to qualify. Debbie Sharnak ’07 became the first Vassar singles player in 13 years to qualify for nationals, and she won her first round match and later was named ITA All-American.
